Methods Used to Relieve Pain

Physical properties such as Moist heat, Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation, Cryotherapy and other methods used to relieve pain, improve circulation, decrease swelling, reduce muscle spasm, facilitate healing and assist to improve mobility.

Ultrasound Therapy
Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves which are transmitted through the tissues by way of a coupling gel and sound head in contact with the skin. Various benefits can be achieved by adjusting the frequency and intensity of the sound waves. These benefits include increased blood flow, deep heat to the tissues, scar tissue breakdown and increased rates of healing.

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation, or E-Stim as we call it, is a method that uses electrical current to stimulate nerve pathways in both the skin and underlying muscle tissues. Various settings can be used to relieve pain, reduce weakness or atrophy of muscles after surgery or injury, and improve healing. Other methods include using E-stim with dry needling for even more therapeutic benefits.

Heat and Cold Therapy

Heat therapy, or Thermotherapy is used to increase blood flow which reduces pain, decreases muscle tension/guarding, and induces feelings of relaxation. Cold therapy, or Cryotherapy is used to decrease swelling, reduce muscle spasm and improve the body’s own healing abilities after injury or surgery.
